The tour should be done on a windless day with a deep blue sky. You will have a fantastic far-sightedness - sometimes you can discover Venice on the skylinie! And then there comes a beautiful glacier run down from the Marmolada of about 5 km, in some parts rather steep.
Because of the long distance, all of you should be fit well. Tipp: We recommend to take some food with you, because on the way you won't find inviting huts. From the top of the Marmolada you are able to send postcards directly, with the stamp of the Marmolada-Mountainstation.
Since the Season 2000/2001 the Marmolada cableway is included in the dolomiti superskipass. By the way, you can reach the Marmolada by helicopter also. The helicopter take off point is at the Cherz hut.
The Marmolada cableway is split into 3 sections. At the end of section 2 there is a museum about the history of the first worldwar around the Marmolada. Among other things here you can see a model of the ice town, built by Austrian soldiers into the glacier up to 50 m deep and a lot more. This "Wartown" situated in 3000 m was the home of many soldiers between 1916-1917.
